Maskne

What's the cause?

In most cases, maskne is the result of clogged pores. You already have oil, bacteria, and dead skin cells on your skin. But when you wear a mask, these substances can build up more and block your pores.
A mask also traps humidity due to your breathing and sweating, which may increase the risk of acne.
Or you may be allergic to the material of the face mask you are using.

How to treat Maskne?

It's essential to keep wearing your mask even if you are developing Maskne. There are several ways you can reduce developing Maskne or to relieve it.

Steps include but not limited to:

1. Wash you face regularly with Luke water. Once in the morning, once before bed and after sweating or after wearing your mask. Pat dry your face after. Rubbing your skin can cause further skin irritation.

2. Use a gentle Cleanser. As this can help by removing excess oil, sweat, and bacteria.
As much as we love our frangance products, I recommend to avoid them and ones with alcohol since these may cause further irritation and make it harder for acne to heal.

3. Break-up from your make-up. If you're treating Maskne keep in mind that make-up product will continue to clogged your pores and prolong healing.

4. If you are using cloth mask wash after every use with a non-scented detergent, then dry completely.

5. Dispose of your disposable mask.
Carry a few on hand if you need to swap in case yours get soiled.

6. Skin break. Give your skin a 15 minute rest every 4 hours. Only do this if you can practice physical distancing. Wash your hands prior to removing your mask. *Remember to refresh your face with Luke water (Revisit Step 1)

7. Apply a moisturizer prior to using a clean mask. Moisturizer can serve as a barrier between your skin and the mask this can help by avoiding irritation from the friction.

Use a Noncomedogenic Moisturizer. Noncomedogenic are products likely to help us avoid skin pore blockages and other unwelcome signs of acne that may result. A common recommended noncomedogenic Moisterizer is CeraVe Moisturizing Creme.

8.The material of the mask can be a major factor to maskne.
Avoid mask that are made of synthetic fabrics such as nylon or rayon. These materials can irritate the skin.

9.Continue following your regular skin care morning & night routine to help keep your skin healthy, radiant, and hydrated.
Ask us about skin care regimen. This is individualized since everyone skin is different.

10.If your maskne doesn’t resolve with these recommendations, consider visiting a dermatologist.
